Schedule Details

Day 1 Welcome to Colombo

Marking the beginning of your holiday, spend the day in Colombo exploring its eclectic array of shops and restaurants. Take in an art gallery or view the vibrant street art or spend the day people gazing at the Galle Face Green before joining your fellow travellers and Travel Manager for an orientation drive and Welcome Dinner.

Accommodation: Cinnamon Red Hotel Colombo.

Included meals: Dinner.

OPTIONAL AND INCLUDED EXPERIENCES

Colombo Orientation: Drive through the City of Colombo and see some of its famous features during an orientation with your Travel Manager. Included with trip.

Day 2 See Elephants and the Slender Loris

Watch Elephants taking a bath at a river and visit a shop that creates unique products from elephant poo (dung). Visit a wildlife sanctuary for an Elephant Safari and see these gentle giants in the wild. Then go on a Night Walk with a Local Specialist to see the Grey Slender Loris in its natural habitat. Dine at a Local Restaurant.

Jeep Safari at a Wildlife Sanctuary: Head out in an especially outfitted safari vehicle to a wildlife sanctuary to see Elephants and a variety of wildlife. Included with trip.

Day 3 Explore Sigiriya

Explore the Water Gardens, Mirror Wall and Frescoes of the Sigiriya Rock Fortress and the Ruins of the Ancient City at Polonnaruwa, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites with a Local Specialist. Visit a Rural Village, ride in a bullock cart and a traditional catamaran and participate in a cooking demonstration. An ideal opportunity to interact with villagers to learn about their customs and way of life. Dine at your hotel in Sigiriya.

Day 4 Learn about Handicrafts, Spices and Kandyan Culture

Visit a local factory to learn about the Exquisite Art of Batik making and visit a Spice Garden to explore the world of Ayurveda. Go on a sightseeing tour of Kandy, see the ancient palace, the temple and the lake and view the city from various elevated points for some great photographs. See a Cultural Dance performance that showcases traditional Sri Lankan dance forms, music, and folklore. Dine at your hotel in Kandy.

Day 5 Tea and Elephants

Go on a Guided Tour of the orchid house, fernery, and bamboo grove of the Royal Botanical Gardens. View Tea Gardens and Waterfalls as you head to Ratnapura which was once called the ‘City of Gems’. Visit a Tea Plantation and spot Elephants on a Wildlife Safari (optional). Dine at your hotel in Udawalawe.

Day 6 Visit the Elephant Transit Home and Galle Fort

Visit a unique rehabilitation center for orphaned elephant calves. Experience the awesome power of the largest natural blowhole in Sri Lanka as it spouts a cascade of sea water into the air and walk through the Old Dutch Fort at Galle with a Local Specialist.

Walking Tour of Galle Fort: Walk through the cobbled narrow streets of the old Dutch Fort at Galle with a Local and get to know the unique culture of this city within a city. Sample the cuisine. Included with trip.

Day 7 See Whales and Discover Galle

Ride the oceanic waves on a Whale and Dolphin watching excursion in the morning. The rest of the day is free to enjoy the soft rolling waves of the Southern Ocean. In the evening, celebrate a memorable journey through Sri Lanka with your newfound friends and Travel Manager at a Farewell Dinner.

OPTIONAL AND INCLUDED EXPERIENCES

Whale Watching: Hop onto an ocean-going vessel with an experienced crew to see a variety of marine life which include blue whales, fin whales, sperm whales, orcas, pilot whales, humpback whales, dolphins, flying fish, turtles, manta rays and whale sharks. Included with trip.

Day 8 Return to Colombo

Visit a Folk Art Museum and a Handicraft factory that specializes in making traditional masks. Then see the Turtle Conservation efforts undertaken in Sri Lanka. Return to Colombo where you will bid farewell to your fellow travelers at the end of an exciting and memorable holiday to Sri Lanka.

What is and is not included in the price shown online for my trip?

The price you see on The Travel Cafe website is per person based on two guests sharing a room. Solo pricing can be found in the first step of the booking process once you have selected your travel dates / departure.

What is included in this price:

·         Breakfast daily and some evening meals as described in the trip itinerary.

·         All porterage and restaurant gratuities.

·         All hotel tips, charges, and local taxes.

·         Sightseeing and activities as described in your itinerary.

 

 What is not included in this price:

·         Flights and visas.

·         Extra hotel nights for before and after your trip. These can be added during the booking process.

·         Optional experiences. These can be booked and paid for during your trip.

Can I book flights through The Travel Café?

The Travel Café offers airfare on select routes and if you would like an airfare inclusion, please let us know when making your Reservation indicating your country / city of origin.

Usually, a copy of your passport’s bio data page will be required for airline bookings.

Can I book extra hotel nights before or after my trip through The Travel Café?

Yes, you can book extra hotel nights through The Travel Café. Many guests like to give themselves a little more time in a destination before or after their trip.

 

Additional hotel nights can be added to your booking during the online booking process, simply select your departure date to begin the process.

If you have booked through a Travel Agent, please reach out to them and they will add the extra nights to your reservation.
